Grillenberg
Deceleration on the Gonna
Green meadows, forest idyll and a long history dating back to before the year 840 characterise Grillenberg in the southern Harz. The village’s coat of arms shows a stag with three stars. A view of the village from above promises perfect rest and relaxation. The small Harz stream of the Gonna winds between the houses. Deceleration is preprogrammed during extensive walks to the Ungeheurer Graben and the source of the Gonna. A checkpoint for the Harzer Wandernadel hiking award can be found near the Grillenburg castle ruin on the Schlossberg. The former ministerialis castle made of large red rusticated ashlars still features its outer ward tower and shield wall. You can be at one with nature anywhere in the Grillenburg resort. The ‘Campingplatz am Waldbad’ offers year-round camping for nature lovers and the village’s guesthouses and holiday rentals await to welcome you. The Harzer Erlebnishof offers various accommodation and leisure packages.
Tip:
Along the popular circular trail Buschklepper, you will see pyramids in the distance. Once you approach these, they turn out to be mine dumps. The Gipskarstlandschaft (gypsum karst landscape) nature reserve surrounds the small village in the west and north. The mining and rose town Sangerhausen is close by in only 9Â km (5.6Â m) distance.
