Seeburg
On the Sweet Lake
“Blue sky, blue waves, vineyards around the lake ...”, this is how Karl Josef Simrock in his Middle High German poetry described the view of Seeburg, a resort town characterised by fruit and wine growing. From the eastern shore of the Süßer See (Sweet Lake), one can see the impressive Renaissance castle, one of the largest castle complexes in central Germany.
The former Hochseeburg with its Widow’s Tower majestically rises above the lake.
On the terraces below, a restaurant offers the best view across the lake, enjoyed with a wine from the local vineyards. Ambitious sailing enthusiasts and surfers launch their activities from the small marina. Plenty of hours of sunshine make fruit growing a trademark of the region and provide perfect conditions for a pleasurable sojourn. A cycling excursion along the Himmelsscheibenradweg (Sky Disk Cycle Trail) directly leads to the site of the find of the historical Nebra sky disk. Other forms of active relaxation include walks around the lake, along the Lutherweg, the Weinstraße and the Jakobsweg.
