Blankenburg
Devil’s Wall and Baroque Castle Gardens
Blankenburg Castle, the Little Castle and the Baroque gardens form a unique palace complex that is the stuff of dreams and to this day illustrates why Blankenburg was once famous for illustrious festivals and theatre performances. In an optimal combination you can discover impressive landscapes, mystical natural treasures, and idyllic spots for restful moments during your rambles. The well developed and signposted hiking trails lead through the foothills of the Harz or to the heights of the Harz Mountains. You can choose from easy walks as well as challenging day trips depending on condition and health. Looking from Regenstein towards Halberstadt, a white spot in the middle of the pine forest catches the eye. Here in the Heers, on a forest clearing of the size of a football pitch, massive sandstone rocks loom, some featuring caves. Friends of the Harzer Wandernadel hiking award chose this site as the ‘Most Beautiful Checkpoint’ of 2009.
Tip:
The Blankenburg moor mud is said to have special healing properties. Try it!
