Schollene

Natural Gifts of the March

Lake Schollene and its floating islands has an aura of mystery. Deep down at the bottom of the lake, green and brown algae unfold their healing properties in a 16 m-thick mud layer (52 ft). The curative mud from Schollene, south of Havelberg, is called Pelose and used in the treatment of rheumatic disorders and sports injuries, where it is applied as a compress. Experience natural spectacles of a special kind amid the pine forests of the March and along the blue Havel river with its verdant wetlands and impressive biodiversity. Along the Path of Rest and Relaxation around the natural oasis of Schollene you can see orchids covering the marshland meadows and observe grey geese and white-tailed sea eagles. Relax on solitary bathing spots along the river Havel and during extensive excursions on foot, by bicycle or on horseback. Schollene is one of the so-called Altmärkische Wandernester (ramblers’ nests). The name reveals that this is a good place to take a rest.

Tip:

Catch the best view of the lake at Lehmkuhle and quench your thirst at the Mühlenberg brewery.
