Pearl of the Altmark
In the northernmost corner of Saxony-Anhalt, life in Arendsee usually unfolds in, on or under water. Surrounded by the picture book idyll of the lake you can set sail, go diving or improve your balance by stand-up paddle boarding. The clocks in the climatic health resort tick noticeably slower – typical of the Altmark. Enjoy your personal time out at the bathing beach and let the fine white sand run through your fingers. Relax during a romantic walk around the lake and try the famous maraena whitefish. The Altmark and Arendsee are part of a still little known but eventful riding region. Wide sandy trails can be ridden on without the need for hoof protectors and are excellent also for trail riding novices. A gigantic natural spectacle can be observed between November and January: about 40,000 Nordic wild geese that spend the winter in Arendsee land at dusk on the lake amidst great strokes of wings.
