Treseburg
Scenic Seclusion in the Bode Valley
Those seeking calm will find it in the climatic health resort of Treseburg at the end of the Bode Valley; it also serves as an entry to the Bode Valley conservation area. Of course, Goethe visited here, too, and was mightily impressed by the steep looming rock formations. He was mainly interested in the history of mining that gave rise to the town in the 15th century. Humboldt was fascinated by the forests and their diversity of plant life. Mosses, ferns, and clubmosses (Lycopodium) populate even the space between granite rocks. The murmur of the Bode river is ever-present in the silence of this natural realm.
Everyday sounds completely fade away here, bestowing peaceful hours in isolated locations.
Time plays a role in Treseburg only at the clock museum, where you can learn about the history of chronometry. Or you learn how to forget about time in the forest by walking to the nearby Rosstrappe and Wilhelmsblick.
