Arneburg
Far-reaching Views of the Elbe Valley
The marvellous view across the Elbe river landscape in the Altmark from the 30Â m-high (98Â ft) observation platform above the river enchants both visitors and locals at the resort town of Arneburg and is unparalleled along the Elbe cycling route. Cyclist will consciously inhale the refreshing air in the Elbe Valley. The river boasts a considerable width at Arneburg and flows increasingly sluggishly towards its estuary. Arneburg is one of the oldest timber-frame towns on the western bank of the Elbe and radiates welcoming warmth.
Small historical treasures await discovery.
The Fischerbrunnen (Fisher’s Well) in the market square is a reminder of the past importance of the Elbe fishing industry. The effort of climbing the Arneburger Hang and the Burgberg will be rewarded with a grandiose view as far as the peaks of the Kamerner Berge. Kamern am See is the closest resort town awaiting visitors. You can ride, hike and paddle along picturesque wetland paths, the Elbe cycle route, and the river Elbe itself. During little breaks on the groynes you have the opportunity of observing shy white-tailed sea eagles and Elbe beavers.
